The UNSOS Mission: Background and Role

The United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) was established as the successor to the United Nations Support Office for AMISOM (UNSOA) under UN Security Council Resolution 1863 (2009).
Its primary objective is to provide logistical, technical, and operational support to:

  • The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM),

  • The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), and

  • The Somali Federal Security Institutions.

UNSOS works to enhance the effectiveness of these entities in countering threats to peace, supporting state-building, and facilitating political reconciliation and governance across Somalia.

Continuing Commitment

Through its ongoing PX operations and long-standing partnership with UNSOS, WES Group continues to play an important role in strengthening international support structures within Somalia.

By providing welfare, retail, and logistical services, WES Group directly contributes to the sustainability and well-being of peacekeeping personnel, reinforcing its reputation as a trusted partner to international missions and a leader in mission support operations.
