The ISAF Mission: Background and Achievements
The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was a NATO-led, UN-mandated mission that operated from August 2003 to December 2014. Its objective was to assist Afghan authorities in maintaining security, developing national defense capabilities, and preventing Afghanistan from becoming a safe haven for terrorist organizations.
ISAF represented NATO’s largest and most complex operation in Asia and the Middle East, involving over 130,000 troops at its peak and supported by 50 contributing nations. The mission played a central role in training the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and improving local governance and stability.
Additionally, ISAF contributed to reconstruction and development through 28 multinational Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRTs), which secured areas beyond Kabul to facilitate rebuilding efforts by Afghan and international organizations.
Legacy and Continuing Support
Although the ISAF mission formally concluded in 2014, WES Group continues to uphold its presence and support legacy in the region. The company’s dedication to quality service and operational resilience remains a model for private-sector participation in international peacekeeping and stabilization efforts.
